This episode was really... different. With the exception of maybe 5 minutes, the entire episode is one conversation between Yuko and Watanuki. At first it was rather boring, but then it started to remind me of those old school horror movies and I really began to dig it!

The story wasn't based on a manga arc but rather on an upcoming xxxHolic novel being released in Japan. No news yet if this novel will be translated.

In site news, I've finally gotten around to offering advertising space for those people who want to advertise their blogs, fansites, etc and get some more visitors! Maybe it was because I had read the manga version of this story beforehand but I really felt like this episode was padded to the point were 50% of the episode was unneccessary. The whole running in the forest... not needed. The return of the rain spirit... really not needed.

What was needed was Yuko converting more parasite fallen angel demons! That part in the manga arc rocked.

I did however like how they expanded on why Watanuki wanted the pipe fox spirit returned to it's smaller form.

This episode could have been a lot better had they shown Yuko doing more while Watanuki was in the vase.

A nice visitor called VP posted a response to my last update (Thanks! That makes my day!) and asked if I knew how many episodes there will be in the current first season (still airing in Japan).

Well late last week I updated the episode listing on the right side menu up to the final episode which will be 22. Currently the episode names for 19, 20, 21 and 22 have yet to be released but I will add them as soon as they are.

It has also been announced that the xxxHolic DVD release will include two exclusive made for DVD "episodes", but right now I'm not sure if these are real episodes or simply short films. But they will also be added as soon as I've seen them.

Will there be a second movie? I don't know. This time last year the Tusbasa/xxxHolic movie had been announced months ago, so it doesn't look like there will be a second movie... not this year anyway. ;) My bet is they'll make another Tsubasa/xxxHolic movie for release after the Tsubasa and xxxHolic animes have both finished as a finale (storywise, the Tsubasa gang will most likely head back to Yuko anyway, so a joint movie to finish off both series makes sense). Of course this is just my speculation.

Still no word on a second season at all actually! It has been mentioned though that a second season will depend on how well the DVDs of the first season sell (Japanese animes make a profit from merchandise [manga doesn't count here as CLAMP gets all those profits] such as DVDs, soundtracks, etc) so if you really want a second season of xxxHolic, support the show and grab the first dvd (with a box & cd!) which comes out this week!

This episode was really nice! It drew the twin arc to a close and kept it very close to the manga while throwing in a cool Soel (white Mokona) Tsubasa reference via a hillarious card game between Maru and Moro which was created just for the anime as far as I can tell.

The animation was a step up from last week and the whole thing flowed well, but the content of the story didn't really effect the overall story and character development that much at all.... that's what next week's episode if for which will feature the pipe fox spirit (still in uber fox mode!) and the vestal spirit! Tanoshimi!

A lot of people have been panning this episode due to the overly simple character designs of the two twins, and I'm going to have to agree. These designs are some of the least creative I've ever seen and so basic that it just distracts from the episode as a whole. I do have a feeling however that, as with all xxxHolic episodes, it will look ten times better when the widescreen version is released!

That being said I liked this episode and have always liked this story (being a twin myself) and the anime writers pulled it off nicely and with a nice suprise at the end... it's a two parter! That's right, this episode marks xxxHolic's first "to be continued" ending!

This episode also saw the ending credits, Reason be replaced by a very cool new one, Kagerou.

While this episode had everything from the manga, I felt as if something was missing. The pacing seemed to really drag in parts and the added idea of the girl's drawing changing just seemed cliched and didn't make much sense.

Maru and Moro were given some more depth though which was great and the pipe fox spirit did transform, something was just missing. That and the animation was a step down from last week which is suprising considering how important this episode was.

I was really underwelmed with this episode. Normally I like anime-only storylines but this one just seemed a bit too.... dull and really had nothing at all going on except for the woman's ghost storyline.

I will admit that when Watanuki actually sees the woman, it's the creepiest scene so far in this series... period. Well done there. I just wish more was done with it and I couldn't help but wonder where the fox spirit is. Strange.

Next week finally has the introduction of the wing-soul-eating-demons! Wooo!!! It may also feature the new ending song which I wasn't expecting for a while, but Mokona had a goodbye message at the end of the credits this week. Guess he won't be around next week!
